It was only a matter of days before we found ourselves back at Westminster Quay. This past weekend, we were actually there twice. Right on the Fraser River, it’s a great place to go for a walk, and once you’ve worked up a bit of an appetite, grab some food either at the River Market or at Angelina’s, a little breakfast/brunch place also at the quay.
On Saturday, we took Stella for a walk (and tried out her new stroller!), heading in the direction of the Patullo Bridge, before sitting down to some pannekoeken at Angelina’s. I just love a good pannekoek. I love its thin, slightly chewy texture, and I love that at Angelina’s, you can get it with raspberries, maple syrup AND whipped cream.
On Sunday, we found ourselves at Westminster Quay again – it’s just such a great place for a relaxing lunch before jumping into the chaos of Sunday errands. This time, we took Stella in the opposite direction, but didn’t make it very far before it started to pour. Thankfully my dad had the good sense to take one look at the gray sky and oddly cold morning, and remind us to bring our rain jackets. Back at the River Market, we all opted for Re-up ribs and fried chicken, as well as some steamed mussels and fried oysters from Longtail Kitchen. I don’t think I’ve tasted a better southern fried chicken in the Greater Vancouver area than at Re-up: perfectly crispy, not breaded, and not dry at all. I recommend getting it on the breakfast platter, with biscuits and gravy, and a fried egg – you won’t regret it.
What’s great about Westminster Quay, and in particular the River Market, is that its got quite a bit of umbrella-covered outdoor seating, so eating with Stella is never a problem. Even in the rain.
For dessert, my cousin and I had crepes with maple syrup and whipped cream, while others had affogato.
