I was lucky enough to spend this beautiful Cinco de Mayo in Deep Cove with my best friend, Malorie. We enjoyed a couple doughnuts from Honey’s – maple for me, chocolate for her – which for reasons beyond me, remain a bit of local secret. They really are a little bit of heaven, especially combined with sun, sea breeze, and a fantastic view of Indian Arm.

Deep Cove is one of my favourite places, especially during the spring and summer. Even with Gallant St. buzzing with tourists and locals alike, I find it oddly relaxing. We had originally planned to hike Quarry Rock (a fantastic, if pretty rigorous hike), but we got out there later than we had wanted, so we decided to save that for another day – a good idea because temperatures rose pretty quickly as the day went on. Instead, we just had our doughnuts and took a walk along the water, watching puppies of all shapes and sizes bouncing about in the gentle waves.
