I’ve never been one of those strict human-food-is-bad-for-dogs types, so Stella has definitely had her share of food from the table. She doesn’t get chocolate, of course…or onions or grapes or avocados. But she has had a dollop of frosting, here and there.
Recently though, we had a couple allergy tests done – turns out she’s allergic to gluten. And since she’s used to sharing (and isn’t a fan of Three Dog Bakery’s wheat-free options), I’ve been on a mission to find gluten-free yummies that we can both enjoy. That’s when I discovered recently opened Lemonade Gluten-Free Bakery.
Pastry chef and owner Tracy Kadonoff had worked in some premier locations before developing a gluten allergy, so her gluten-free offerings are seriously amazing. I will say though that her version of chocolate sparkles, are not up to par with the Thomas Haas originals, but everything else I’ve tried, from the lemon coconut mousse cake and crostatas to the peanut butter cookies and quinoa bread, have not disappointed. Before coming across Lemonade, I’d been pretty resigned to the grainy, cardboard-like textures and flavours of gluten-free baking. Apparently, I had just been looking in the wrong places! Lemonade also does a light and fluffy vanilla chiffon cupcake with a smooth raspberry Italian meringue frosting, and a pretty legit triple chocolate mousse.
Who knew that a gluten-free bakery would become a weekend staple?
