I love cake, but frosting is not my favourite – especially buttercream. This is why I love German chocolate cakes – they are topped with a “frosting” that is pretty much a caramel with coconut mixed in. In real life, it’s also supposed to have pecans, but pecans are really not my favourite so I leave them out.

This past Saturday, thanks to a good friend of mine, I discovered that even more than German chocolate cake, I love German chocolate brownies – that same caramel and coconut frosting on top of a chewy, fudgy brownie. And there is a bakery right here in Windsor that makes them. It’s called Sunrise Bakery.
