After a night of a little too much champagne, vodka and much-needed pizza, we spent the morning with family friends. We took the puppies for a walk on the seawall and then had a quiet brunch at Giovane Café & Wine Bar at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. I had the pizza feature – arrabiata sauce, chicken and ricotta – and it was kind of amazing. Others had portobello panini, breakfast bruschetta, minestrone soup (with bits of pancetta – one of the best I’ve had), and meatball panini.
Apart from fantastic Panini and pizza, Giovane is known for a little pastry called the “sugar bun”. It’s a perfectly round pastry coated with sugar and filled with the lightest vanilla Chantilly. It isn’t just bread filled with vanilla cream – instead, the “bun” is a buttery pastry with a slight crunch to it. And when you cut into it, the vanilla Chantilly just explodes out. So good.
