Stella had to see Dr. Maja this morning for a follow-up (we’re dealing with a particularly stubborn round of allergies), and afterward she always gets a walk and a treat for being a little trooper. Going to the vet has become a much more pleasant experience for us since we started seeing Dr. Maja (Healing Paws, Port Moody BC) who provides a combination of holistic and conventional veterinary care. She sees a lot of French Bulldogs so she’s great with them; Stella loves her. She helped us create a diet for Stella that allows us to manage her allergies and sensitive stomach and limit the amount of steroids Stella has to take every year. Dr. Maja also recognizes the adverse effects of vaccines on dogs – Stella, for example, had a severe reaction to the rabies vaccine, so we skip the rabies vaccine altogether, and as with our previous dogs, do titers for everything else (when we have to travel, Dr. Maja writes a letter explaining why Stella can’t have the rabies vaccine, and so far we haven’t had any problems at the border). Anyway, after a morning spent at the vet (where she had blood drawn for a thyroid profile), Stella was rewarded with a moose antler and a walk at Rocky Point.
Since we were there, we decided to stop for some ice cream at Rocky Point Ice Cream, and while paying, noticed they had some ice cream sandwiches. I’m on a mission to try all the ice cream sandwiches the Vancouver area has to offer, so I couldn’t resist one (despite the Mexican chocolate cone already in my hand). I chose vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two chewy oatmeal cookies loaded with cranberries and nuts, and it was all sorts of amazing. While modern and unique combinations are fun, there’s something to be said about sticking to the basics.

The chewy oatmeal with ice-cream combo does sound amazing… I don’t even think we have something like that here… probably have to buy chewy cookies and DIY from there!! 😛
DIY ice cream sandwiches are the best! Try peanut butter cookies with chocolate ice cream or shortbread cookies with strawberry ice cream 🙂
Thanks for the tip! 😀 Can’t wait to try!
