Drizzly patio brunch

Before Stella came along, I picked out restaurants to try based on the menu, and to a lesser extent, location and ambiance. Now, since I almost always have my little buddy in tow, the question I ask first is, “Does it have a patio?”  If not, I file that restaurant away as a place to try with friends when my mother can babysit Stella. Last week, we tried a place called Fraser Park Restaurant (we saw it on You Gotta Eat Here). It’s not the prettiest place, in fact, it’s not pretty at all, but it happens to be minutes away from one of Stella’s favourite parks, they have a patio, and the food is good. It’s a typical diner with a German spin.

My mom and  I split a German Lunch (poached ham, bratwurst, mashed potatoes, and house-made sauerkraut), chocolate chip pancakes, and chicken gumbo. An eclectic combo to say the least, but it was good. Even out on the patio on an October morning.

They do some really great soup. Since then, we’ve tried their version of Italian Wedding (tomato-based with orzo and sausage), as well as the lentil. I’ve heard that turkey risotto is one to try as well, so I’ll have to stop in one of these days.
