I was lucky enough to celebrate my mom’s birthday with her last week in Vancouver. Her birthday was great – we had Chinese take-out for lunch, as per usual – followed by dinner at Trattoria the following night.

I love birthdays, but I particularly love my mom’s. She loves pastels and buttercream, especially when they come together in a box of cupcakes, so her birthday saw a kitchen table covered in cupcakes ranging from her favourite lemon to coconut, red velvet, hummingbird and salted caramel.
